Seeing the Creator first

I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. (Psalm 34:1)

When we stop to ponder the beauty of creation — whether a cardinal, or a hydrangea or any other creation — let’s not just appreciate the beauty. Let’s also ponder the magnificence of the Artist who created them.

When someone forgives us or shows us mercy, let’s not just appreciate their act of kindness. Let’s also appreciate God from Whom all mercy and forgiveness comes.

When someone speaks the truth with love, let’s not just appreciate the truth. Let’s stop to ponder the Author of truth.1

When we witness someone showing humility, let’s also pause and remember Christ giving the ultimate offer of humility on the cross.

When we lie down at the end of the day in our comfortable bed, let’s not just enjoy the rest. Let us also consider the One who gave us the gift of rest. (Genesis 2:2)

When we stand in awe of a thunderstorm or the waves crashing on the seashore, let’s not just stand in awe of creation. Let’s also stand in awe of the Creator, Who “piles up the waters of the sea” and “puts the depths into storehouses.” (Psalm 33:7)

When we repent of our sins, let us certainly rejoice in God’s loving forgiveness. Let’s also appreciate that He made repentance an option thanks to Christ’s sacrificial death on the cross for us.

All that is good comes from God. Let’s always dwell on that. Let His praise be constantly on our lips. (Psalm 34:1)
